Name & Age:

Helina (Heli) Medhin, 31

Professional Title:

Yelp Marketing Director (Dallas Metro)

A little background:

I am originally from the midwest-- Milwaukee, WI, to be exact. I am Ethiopian, American and now consider myself a Texan as well, since moving here over 7 years ago.

I have a law degree from the University of Wisconsin, and practiced commercial litigation for a few years before taking on a career change with Yelp in 2012.

Beauty regimens and tips?

Trader Joe's Raw Coconut Oil for my hair and skin.

I also am constantly drinking water and unsweetened herbal teas throughout the day. It keeps my skin glowing, my energy level up, and helps me portion my meals better. I do not drink soda or sweetened drinks at all.

What are your favorite local DFW beauty brands or beauty related services?

I love Huetiful Hair Salon, the first real textured, curly-haired salon in the metro! I love that this salon, made famous in Chicago and Atlanta, has now made a home here, thanks to some of the top celebrity stylists in the country! I wear my hair natural, meaning I have no chemical treatments to straighten my curly texture.

This salon offers damage-free blowouts to straighten my hair, along with tons of other curly styles to bring moisture and bouncy elasticity to my locks!

I also got a foot facial from Miniluxe the other day! OH-EM-GEE! I wanted to cry, it was so good! The oils, the foot creme, the massage, it's beyond your average signature pedicure. Doesn't hurt that the champagne is flowing and the place is absolutely lovely!

What are your favorite NEW restaurants in the DFW?

I love Unleavened Kitchen in Lakewood. It's an awesome lunch spot that has super healthy, delicious options at an affordable price. Their chicken salad gives me daily cravings!

Uche's menu is exceptional, a date night favorite for my husband and I.

I also love pretty much EVERYTHING that has been springing up in the Dallas Farmers Market (Mudhen, Nammi, Rex's).

If you could have dinner with any local DFW woman, who would it be?

Erykah Badu. She is a living legend, a natural beauty, and an artist in every sense of the word. I have run into a few times around the city and of course have been to her shows. I'm sure a dinner conversation with her would be anything but typical and leave me with a new perspective.
