Imagine taking a weekend flight to the beach, lightly packed, girlfriends in tow unbothered about bad hair days, over packed baggage fees and boyfriend drama.
Well, maybe not the hate-boy-love-drama, although Instagram has proven the remedy for an uncertain relationship status is in fact, a vacay.
Every girl needs a vacation but none of us wants to waste valuable time fussing over the perfect hairstyle or struggle with what to wear or what not to wear. Our goal is to minimize those stress factors so that you’re able to enjoy your trip to redeem self-gratification or perhaps to obtain a new outlook on your love life. We took a visual approach and created a summer editorial, our muse Lily Mekeel of The Dragonfly agency was styled by moi (of, course!) in pieces from Zara’s summer collection, with hair and makeup by Melanie King, and last but not least, our photographer Kelsie Shelton.
You want to know the secret to being summer time fine on a dime?
Well, let DFW Beauty Guide show you and your girlfriends the way!
The first look is girlish and flirty but even a cute tomboy could pull it off; the model is wearing a 2 piece set, cropped top ($25) and matching skirt ($20) from Zara. Melanie, a DFW makeup and hair expert gave Lily a natural day look with minimal coverage, mascara, glossy eyelids and a subtle pink lip. For hair, we decided to go with braids because it’s the most easy and manageable hairstyle to accomplish. Lily’s hair was sectioned into two parts and fishtail braided down both sides toward the front of her head. This look is both appropriate for a beach stroll or a volleyball match, whichever floats your boat.
The second look is very feminine; the model is wearing a basic sleeveless dress ($20) with a last season yellow peacoat (sale) from Zara. We decided to stick with a natural face for this look as well by adding a coral colored shadow to Lily’s eyes and also by toning down the entire look with a nude lip. Melanie unbraided the hair and created a deep side part; she added volume by emphasizing the swoop of Lily’s bangs with L’Oréal spritz and tousled the hair with natural waves from the braids. This is a great piece; the stretchy material makes room for movement like dancing or shopping.
The third look is both classy and sexy; the model is wearing a backless patterned jumpsuit ($59) from Zara. Melanie added a little dramatization to Lily’s face this go round by adding a double winged liner across the eyelid and a rich red lip. The hair was swept over into an unpolished side braid which gives the option to wear a hat; definitely the perfect look for a date night or a girl’s night out.
So ladies, are you stoked? We just provided you with a weekend wardrobe for less than $150 from one of the most popular shopping retailers and lightly packed you with featherweight, functional pieces and minimal hair and makeup products.
This is a win, win! By the way, you looking good and saving money leaves room for more Jetset excursions. You're welcome DFW Beauties!
