DFW Beauty Bombshell: Jenna Owens

Name & Age:

Jenna Owens, 30

Professional Title:

Co-host of the nationally syndicated Kidd Kraddick Morning Show and Co-host of the entertainment news program Dish Nation.

A little background:

Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, I was a soccer playing tomboy until I headed to college at Miami University where I focused on a career in journalism. From internships at KissFM in Chicago and LA, to a job at the William Morris talent agency, I eventually auditioned for a co-host position with The Kidd Kraddick Morning Show. The popularity of the radio program, led to the Dish Nation television opportunity. My most career-defining moments to date include interviewing Seth Rogen and having a heart to heart with Neil Young at 3 am at the Bonnaroo music festival. I'm a current supporter of The Dallas/Ft. Worth Pug Rescue Program, U.N.I.C.E.F., Paws In The City, Kidd’s Kids (a youth program established by Kidd Kraddick) and Glamour Squad (also established by Kidd Kraddick, licensed cosmetologists and a team of volunteers provide a day of beauty at local hospitals for terminally/chronically ill teenage girls between the ages of 12 and 19).

Can you share your beauty tips and regimens with us?

I want to say I follow a strict routine when it comes to my skincare, but with my 4 am wake up schedule, I focus on just brushing my teeth. Ha! You could say I've mastered the lazy girl beauty guide. I feel that less is more when it comes to creams, serums and potions for my face.

I have 3 easy, but mandatory rules to my beauty routine.

  1. I wash my hair as little as possible.
  2. I NEVER sleep or exercise in makeup. I always carry makeup remover wipes with me. I love Kate Somerville products when I have more time before bed.
  3. WATER. WATER. WATER. Everyone says this, but I know water is the key to beautiful skin. I drink at least 3 liters a day.

Products I can't live without...

  • Dry Shampoo. It's my favorite beauty product of all time. I'm not loyal to any one brand. I've found the cheap ones work as good or better than the expensive ones. This helps me stick to my 2-3 hair washes a week.
  • Buxom Liner Stick in Bombay. It perfectly matches my natural lip color and has a plumping effect, even though it's still a matte finish.
  • Anastasia Brow products. I am really into the brows. I do my own brow grooming, but I consider eyebrows the most important part of my makeup routine these days.

What are your fav local DFW beauty brands or beauty related services?

I consider exercise to be the most important part of my beauty routine and I owe all of that to my trainer Jon McDowell at Equinox in Highland Park. He's a beast and gets me into the best shape of my life. The Spa at Equinox is also a great spot for a sports massage. Bee has magic hands. I've always been into the nail art trend and I have tried everywhere in Dallas. Ivy at Onyx Nail Spa and P1 at Posh Uptown can free-hand anything I want on my gel manicure. When I have the time, I love treating myself to a facial with Renee Rouleau.

It’s a heavenly experience in every way.

What are your favorite DFW boutiques?

I will admit, I do the majority of my shopping online. I love getting things that no one else will be wearing. Elements has never let me down when "I am desperate for an outfit TONIGHT". I have never left Dolly Python empty-handed either. I was thrilled when one of my favorite LA boutiques moved into The Joule last year. TenOverSix is great for gifts as well as brands that you can't find anywhere else in DFW!

Any spring events you're looking forward to?

This weekend I am excited to host the first annual Cut For Love event at the LAB ART gallery. So many women have signed up to get 10+ inches of their hair cut off by Dallas' top stylists, to be donated to Locks of Love. I will also be traveling to various Children's Hospitals across the country for my Glamour Squad charity where we take a full team of estheticians and treat teenage girls to a spa day.

If you could have dinner with any local DFW woman, who would it be?

Honestly, I would love to take my vet at Katy Trail Animal Hospital to dinner. My boyfriend-and by boyfriend I mean of course my 10 year old pug Maximus-has been really sick lately and Dr. Kelly Oberschelp has been incredible and literally saved my dog's life a couple weeks ago.

Any last words, pieces of wisdom, quotes to share with our DFW Beauties?

Don't be afraid to be different. Different is the path to inspire others. Unless different is wearing crocs. Don't wear crocs!
